JTA running 'evacuation buses' to take families to shelters ahead of Irma

Jacksonville, FL — As Hurricane Irma draws closer, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority says its buses are operating on a Saturday schedule until midnight tonight. Fixed route bus service isn't expected to resume until Tuesday, September 12.

However, Connexion, JTA's paratransit service, will be available for life sustaining trips and special needs evacuations through Sunday, weather permitting.

JTA says evacuations at the beaches will also continue throughout the weekend, depending on weather conditions.

They say anyone with transportation needs, should go to one of the following pick-up locations:

•Fletcher High School

700 Seagate Avenue

Neptune Beach, FL 32266

•Mayport Middle School

2600 Mayport Road

Atlantic Beach, FL 32233

•Jacksonville Beach Elementary

315 South Tenth Street

Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250

JTA says 'evacuation buses' are available to take customers to designated shelters from those pick-up locations. They say anyone requiring special needs transportation to a shelter should call (904) 630-CITY.
