Green Cove Springs man dies in crash on U.S. 17

A man is dead after a crash in Green Cove Springs. The Florida Highway Patrol says 23-year-old Richard Rooker III was killed when he crashed a motorcycle into the back of a truck while traveling south on U.S. 17 at State Road 16. Troopers say it appears Rooker III didn’t slow down when traffic slowed in front of him. FHP says skid marks on the road show that he may have been speeding before the crash.

Troopers say the driver who was hit is cooperating with their investigation.
