Nassau Humane Society takes in dogs at risk of euthanasia in Texas

Nearly 30 dogs that were at risk of being euthanized for space reasons in Texas have now found a safe haven in Nassau County.

The Nassau Humane Society says Fort Worth Animal Care and Control contacted them about a week ago because they were looking at potentially having to euthanize dogs for space, since they had more than 700 dogs in their facility. NHS agreed to take in 29 dogs, and they say a shelter in Fort Lauderdale took some in as well.

Fort Worth Animal Care and Control drove the dogs in last night.

The dogs got baths and grooming from staff and volunteers today, and while many are dog-friendly, some are undergoing heartworm treatment or healing from other minor wounds. Most of these dogs will be available to adopt Wednesday, while some will need foster homes for the duration of their medical treatment.

You can learn more about how to adopt through NHS on their website.
