Following President Trump's State of the Union Address Tuesday in which he called for more bipartisan cooperation on issues like immigration, infrastructure, and the economy, lawmakers from Northeast Florida and around the state are reacting.
Republican Representative John Rutherford, from Florida’s 4th Congressional District, says he thinks the president did a good job at setting the stage for bringing the country together during the address.
“I really thought it was an incredibly well written, well delivered, and and certainly well thought out speech that he gave.” Rep. Rutherford says.
He says he believes the president did a good job at balancing the issues.
It is unquestionable that our nation is stronger today under @realDonaldTrump than two years ago.

Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Al Lawson, from Florida's 5th Congressional District, says after the speech he doesn't think the president is interested in working across the aisle on a compromise on border security.
“He made it clear that he wanted to get exactly what he stated that he wanted earlier about the $5.7 billion.” Rep. Lawson says.
Lawson says he doesn’t think there will be an agreement on funding before the next government shutdown deadline of February 15th.
Rep. Lawson says one issue he looks forward to working with the president on is lowering health care costs.
Republican Representative Ted Yoho, from Florida’s 3rd Congressional District, says he’s proud of the president’s address.
“The thing that makes America great is opportunity and opportunity is not Republican or Democrat, its an American ideology.” Rep. Yoho says.
Republican Representative Michael Waltz, from Florida’s 6th congressional district says what stood out about the address to him was the president’s tone.
“It was one of America has been great and is is really on a roll.” Rep. Waltz says.
He says he’s remaining optimistic that a funding deal will be reached by February 15th.
“We can’t get to meaningful legal immigration reform until we solve this border problem.” Rep. Waltz says.
