Payments start this week in Florida from new federal unemployment program

Jacksonville FL — This week the State of Florida said that they would begin payments to eligible people impacted financially by coronavirus under the new federal Lost Wages Assistance Program. We reported last month when the state applied for the program which offers people already receiving Reemployment Assistance a chance to get an extra $300 a week.

“These additional funds will provide critical support to Florida’s unemployed workforce due to COVID-19.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said.

The state says payments will be sent for the weeks ending August 1st through August 15th. People who get the extra money will receive it the same way as they receive their Reemployment Assistance, but a paper check will be sent out if debit card is selected as the payment method. The Department of Economic Opportunity recommends selecting the direct deposit option so that way the benefits will get to you quicker.
