ORIGINAL STORY: The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an Amber Alert for a missing 10-year-old Clay County boy.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says Cedric Barnes was last seen leaving Argyle Elementary School. Deputies say surveillance video shows Barnes leaving the campus on a red scooter with some of his friends around 2:50 PM Thursday afternoon.
Investigators say they’ve spoken with some of those children and they told deputies that they were walking on Spencer Plantation Boulevard approaching Water Mill Drive, when they saw Barnes walk over to a silver or gray police-style sedan and start a conversation with the person or people inside. Deputies say the friends continued walking and when they turned around both Barnes and the vehicle were gone.
Deputies say they’re not 100% certain that Barnes got into that vehicle, but, either way, whoever was inside likely has information on his whereabouts.
The sheriff’s office says the best thing parents can do to help find Barnes is talk with their children and see if they had any interaction with Barnes, including if he shared any information with them.
Barnes was wearing a polo shirt with blue stripes, jean shorts, and a red backpack. He’s described as being about 4 feet tall and weighs about 70 pounds, according to the FDLE.
If you know where Barnes is or if you've seen him, you're urged to contact the sheriff's office at (904) 264-6512 or by dialing/texting 911.
