Special election needed to fill remainder of Duval County Tax Collector’s term

Jacksonville, FL — If you are registered to vote in Duval County, you'll have a chance to select a new Tax Collector this summer.

Michael Corrigan has accepted the job of CEO at Visit Jacksonville; he's set to take over June 1st.  He told WOKV that there are two opportunities for success that he’ll be working on; to “continue to grow the number of tourists that come to Jacksonville, that’s always going to be our number one goal, but also to grow our convention sales,” Corrigan said.  Corrigan said there’s also a real opportunity to take a big step forward with plans for a new convention center.

In a letter to the Supervisor of Elections, Corrigan says that the need for a leader of Visit Jacksonville would not align with the end of his term as Tax Collector.

The Jacksonville City Council is set to consider scheduling a first election for August 28th.  If no candidate receives a majority of the votes, a runoff will be held on November 6th.

Both coincide with the mid-term election calendar.
