St. Johns County announces assistance grants through CARES Act

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners announced that they will be giving out financial relief grants to help local businesses, residents, and nonprofit organizations who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Applications will begin on Thursday, August 20, for individuals and small businesses. Individuals and households may qualify up to $5,000 while small businesses can apply for up to $20,000. Nonprofit organizations will have a separate application which will be available in the coming weeks.

For businesses to be eligible, they must have been operational on or before March 1 and have no more than 100 employees as of July 1. Business grant amounts are determined based on the number of employees. The grant can be used to help with mortgage or rent, utilities, payroll, PPE equipment, facility hardening, and sanitizing/cleaning supplies

Residents must provide proof that they lost 25 percent or more on their finances because of COVID-19. There can only be one application per household. The grant can be used to help with mortgage or rent, utilities, cellphone bills, and internet bills.

The St. Johns County Board was granted a total of $18 million in federal CARES Act funding.

Applications will go live at 10 a.m. on Thursday. For additional information, call 904.209.6050 or email sjccares@sjcfl.us.
