St. Augustine police search for apartment porch pirate

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The St. Augustine Police Department needs your help identifying a thief.

“The porch pirate got away with some pretty valuable items,” St. Augustine Police Officer Dee Brown said.

Police said the Woodcrest apartments porch pirate made off with a pair of Jordan 1 Retro High Pollen 10.5 sneakers, a pair of Nike Air Trainer 1 10.5 midsole sneakers, and an Amazon waist trainer.

When you add up the cost of the stolen items, the man in the video may be facing some serious charges.

“Right now, at least one pair of those shoes, depending on the market, they’re going for $500. You’re looking at a felony,” Officer Brown said.

It was a neighbor’s Ring camera that caught the thief on video. The neighbor told us there have been reports of an individual trying to break into cars in the apartment complex for weeks.

Officer Brown confirmed that another video showed the thief trying to break into vehicles.

“An individual, initially, was going around checking door handles,” Officer Brown said.

In cases like this, police said Ring cameras provide a key piece of evidence.

“The ring cameras are 100% helpful. Those are the things we don’t have, if we’re not around or no one is around,” Officer Brown said.
