State Attorney’s Office hands JEA investigation over to federal investigators

The State Attorney’s Office has been investigating the issues surrounding the potential privatization of JEA since last year, but going forward the investigation will be in the hands of federal authorities.

State Attorney Melissa Nelson released a statement today saying her office took the issue very seriously, and without the diligent work of her employees the investigation would have never reached this point.

Nelson says the State Attorney’s Office’s team of investigators looked into every item of information possible, whether they found the information on their own or whether it was presented to them.

“After thorough review, the State Attorney’s Office has determined that the appropriate venue to continue this investigation is the federal justice system,” Nelson says in a statement. “We have referred our investigation to our federal partners, who will take the lead moving forward and have the full support of this office.”

The news comes just hours after interim CEO Melissa Dykes announced she will not be looking to get the job on a permanent basis.
