The Bolles School, Episcopal School of Jacksonville will start random drug and alcohol testing next school year

Jacksonville, FL — The Bolles School and Episcopal School of Jacksonville are launching a new program at their respective schools that will include random drug and alcohol testing for high school students starting next school year.

The schools say they believe that this program will strengthen their commitment to the health and wellness of their students, as well as the Jacksonville community at large.

Starting in September 2020, the school nurse from each campus will administer a saliva drug test to a randomly selected group of students.

We're told that the results of those tests are known immediately, so if positive, the student would be sent home with their parents and given a recommendation to see a licensed professional. The schools say after a second positive drug and alcohol test, the student will then be subject to disciplinary policies and processes, as well as mandatory intervention with a licensed professional. After a third positive test, the student would be immediately suspended from school activities, with the student and parents then required to meet with the head of school to discuss options.

Bolles plans to hold meetings for parents about the program on October 30th at 8 AM and 5 PM in the Class of ‘46 Alumni Conference Room.
