Three federal vaccine sites now open in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three vaccine sites opened in Jacksonville on Wednesday to help get the vaccine out to communities with a high risk of COVID-19 exposure and infection.

The Gateway Town Center (also known as the Gateway Mall), located at 5200 Norwood Avenue, will be opening their site Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. and will be distributing over 2,000 vaccines to people. The site is being run by Federal Emergency Management Agency, the state and the Navy. 139 people from the Navy will support the site.

There will be two satellite sites, one in Northwest Jacksonville at the Hammond Senior Center, and one on the Westside at the Normandy Community Center, across from Normandy Park.

To get the vaccine at the three sites, one can either pre-register or they can walk up to the site. Walk-up vaccinations will be taken if there is availability.

To pre-register for an appointment at the sites, people can call 866-200-3762 or click here. The state will call back when an appointment is available.

All three sites will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. The two satellite sites will be closing on March 13th.

School employees, law enforcement officers, and firefighters, who are 50 years old and older, will be able to get their vaccines at the three sites as well. The only requirement is to bring an ID as proof of employment. This comes after the Governor’s Executive Order on Monday that extended who was eligible for the vaccine. Some at the Regency Mall were able to get the vaccine Sunday under this new requirement due to a lack of appointments, according to a spokesperson of the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Last week, another new site opened at Edward Waters College that is directly for the community surrounding the Northwest side. 200 vaccines are being distributed a day at that site.
