TIAA Bank gives UNF student food pantry new wheels

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — TIAA Bank has given the food pantry at UNF some new wheels to help pick up more donations to then give to students.

Lend-A-Wing, the food pantry at UNF, is a free food pantry for students who need it. They also have basic school supplies, hygiene items, and other basic necessities for students. In the 2019-2020 school year, Lend-A-Wing distributed 33,175 food items. In the 2018-2019 school year, they distributed 29,086 food items.

The new van donated by the TIAA Bank would help the food pantry pick up donations, specifically fresh produce, meat and dairy items, and then transport it to the Lend-A-Wing Pantry.

“Learning and food insecurity do not make good partners, but TIAA Bank and the University of North Florida do. The university already had a fantastic food pantry program in place. We just gave it a lift. We’re proud to team up with UNF to help fuel students for success,” TIAA Bank Vice President Paul Pugh said.
