Jacksonville, FL — Northeast Florida will feel tropical downpours at times today but there will be no local impacts from the system in the Gulf of Mexico.
Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says tropical storm Barry will continue moving generally away from Florida and will likely impact the central Gulf coast as we head into the weekend. This system could intensify into a hurricane by the weekend.
The current forecast has Barry making landfall along the coast of Louisiana as a hurricane. There will be no local impacts from this system for northeast Florida and SE Georgia.
Flooding will be a BIG issue from what will become #Barry for portions of the Gulf coast and inland as well. #FirstAlertWX pic.twitter.com/lSjA77DDCD

Still a "tropical" atmosphere in place for NE Florida / SE Georgia today. Heavy downpours and lightning the main threats for afternoon storms. A gusty wind possible too. #FirstAlertWX pic.twitter.com/R13tjbYm7f
