‘Unfair and very senseless’: Wife of man gunned down during DoorDash delivery speaks out

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — “He was quiet. Only thing he did was work and play his video games with his sons. He didn’t bother nobody,” Ashly Barron said of her husband while choking back tears.

Ashly’s husband, James Barron, was shot and killed on Nov. 28 while completing a DoorDash delivery with his 20-year-old daughter in the vehicle. On Thursday, Ashly broke the silence while addressing the media just over two weeks following the shooting.

“He didn’t do anything to deserve this. He was out working, and it’s crazy. It don’t make no sense,” Ashly stated emotionally.

Ashly and James have six children, all now left to wonder why this has happened.

“All of us are still in a daze,” Ashly said. “I don’t think our youngest son really gets it.”

However, Ashly says she has no choice but to take it one day at a time.

“I need to be there for our children because they’re all I have,” Ashly stated. “But it’s going to take a while for things to get back to normal.”

James Barron is just one of the many victims who have had their lives taken by violent crime in Jacksonville this year. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office transparency page, there have been 120 criminal homicides so far this year in Jacksonville, compared to 113 for all of last year. However, JSO is solving these crimes with greater success, achieving a 55% clearance rate on criminal homicides this year, compared to 52% last year.
