We lost a great leader: Jacksonville pastor killed in hit and run remembered as loving father

A local family and church congregation is in mourning after their pastor was killed by a hit and run driver this morning on Jacksonville’s west side.

Now police are searching for surveillance.

When a driver is involved in this type of accident, the best thing to do is stay at the scene but police say this driver did not, and now police, a church, and a family are hoping that someone comes forward.

“I am numb but I am taking one day at a time,” said Lyruth Brown.

That’s how Lyruth Brown feels after she learned her husband Lindsay died Wednesday morning.

Police say a man was killed in a hit and run on Crystal Springs Road near Hammond Boulevard.

Lyrtuth said her husband went for a morning run but never made it back home.

“If it was your family you would want someone to do right by your family, so do right by my husband,” said Brown.

Police say they don’t have a description of the car involved at this time

Lyruth said Lyndsay was a loving father, church pastor and retired navy veteran.

“We lost a great member and a great leader at New Life Evangelistic Center,” said Bishop Antonio Richardson.

Richardson says Lindsay has been in the ministry for over thirty years and will be missed by many people who knew him.

“Lindsay left an impact and will leave a void in our ministry. I’m devastated. I could not believe it I just saw him Sunday,” Bishop Richardson said.

“I just want the person that did this, to have a conscience and turn themselves in,” Brown mentioned.

Family and friends say Lindsay lived his life with purpose while inspiring those around him. Police say if you know anything about the hit and run to call them.
