New guidelines are requiring everyone on military bases to wear a mask

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some people like Susan Cervantes, who lives close to NAS JAX, say they are happy to hear people on base will be returning to masks.

“I have no problem with that at all. I’m for it,”Cervates says.

The decision comes after the department of defense made the announcement asking military bases to take the extra precautions- but guidelines vary.

At NAS JAX masks are required for everyone, in every building, regardless of vaccination status.

At Mayport, masks are always required for unvaccinated people on base, and inside every building regardless of your immunization status. They have also limited access to certain buildings depending on the time of day.

Action News Jax spoke to one woman shopping near base who says she is okay with seeing more masks in the area- especially since she has not been vaccinated.

“I don’t mind it. I’ve been thinking about getting the COVID-19 vaccine but I’m still debating on it,” Joanna Kirkos says.

People like Susan Cervantes just think adding masks back into an everyday routine is a wise way to fight the rising numbers here in Jacksonville.

“Florida is a hotbed for COVID-19. If we want to stop it we have to wear masks and get vaccinated.”
