He killed a long-time acquaintance following a fight over five dollars.
It’s what Jacksonville police say motivated a 2012 murder, and new this afternoon we’ve learned the person believed to be responsible has been caught.
JSO says 29-year-old James Russell and 39-year-old Philippe Foster got in an argument over money on November 4, 2012. That escalated to a fistfight, which Russell allegedly lost. About 45 minutes later, JSO says Russell found Foster on A. Philip Randolph.
“He came back as the victim was standing near a street corner, raised the gun, and shot him multiple times,” says JSO Assistant Chief Chris Butler.
Butler says multiple witnesses named Russell as the shooter, and police had an arrest warrant for him that night, but Russell had fled.
He was arrested mid-2013 in Georgia for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, where he served out his sentence and was then transported to Jacksonville in the last few days. He’s now been booked for the 2012 murder.
