Rutherford leads push to get answers about immigrants reportedly flown into Jacksonville

Jacksonville — U.S. Rep. John Rutherford is joined by 51 other Representatives who signed a letter looking for answers about flights reportedly bringing illegal immigrants through the Jacksonville International Airport.

The letter was sent to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. It begins by saying “We are deeply concerned by reports of flights with illegal immigrants being flown from the southwest border to communities across the country with no notification. The lack of transparency from the Biden Administration is unacceptable.”

It goes on to list statistics about the number of migrants encountered at the Southwest border by Customs and Border Protection and how many unaccompanied minors taken in by the Office of Refugee Resettlement each month over the last seven months.

The letter then brings up reports that the Biden Administration is chartering flights to New York and Jacksonville with illegal immigrants on board, but the letter says the White House is not confirming how many of the flights have taken place, who is on the flights or where those people eventually end up.

The letter submits the following questions in an attempt to clear up the situation:

· What agencies are moving illegal immigrants from the border to the interior of the country?

· What populations are being moved by the federal government (UAC, families, single adults)?

· When did these flights begin?

· Are these flights ongoing?

· How many flights have occurred since January?

· How many illegal immigrants have been transported on these flights?

· Where are these flights originating and where are they going?

· Where are individuals on these flights being relocated to?

The letter closes by saying local governments and law enforcement agencies should be in the loop when it comes to these flights. You can read the full letter here.

It’s signed by fellow Republican Representatives from Northeast Florida Michael Waltz and Kat Cammack.
