The teens were stabbed at the Pitt County Fairgrounds in Greenville on Saturday at about 8 p.m. EDT, WRAL-TV reported.

Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance gave off-duty deputies in the area permission to go to the fair, according to the television station.

Officials said the teens, ages 19 and 17, were assaulted by a group of between six to 10 males, WNCT-TV reported. The teens were taken to an area hospital, WRAL reported. Their conditions were unclear as of Sunday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office did not say if any arrests have been made or whether any charges would be filed, WRAL reported.

Fair organizer Ken Ross told WITN-TV that the fair was shut down immediately after the incident, which he called a “minor altercation.”

On Sept. 25, 2021, the fair was shut down early due to multiple altercations, WNCT reported. No injuries were reported, according to the television station.

Last year’s fair was staffed by the sheriff’s office, but security this year was comprised of volunteers, WITN reported.
