Federal authorities seize more than a ton of marijuana at Port of Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Buffalo seized more than a ton of marijuana hidden in a commercial shipment on Thursday.

According to an agency news release, officers assigned to the Peace Bridge inspected a shipment of 20 pallets and discovered 2,410 pounds of marijuana packaged in 2,145 vacuum-sealed pouches.

“Our CBP officers remain enforcement focused and driven, and this latest large load marijuana seizure is proof of that,” Port Director Jennifer De La O said. “Their efforts have produced record-setting results for narcotics seizures within the Buffalo Field Office exemplifying their dedication to the CBP mission.”

The intercepted drugs have an estimated street value of more than $8 million, and the seizure is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the agency stated.

The Buffalo Field Office, which covers 16 ports of entry throughout New York state, made more than 1,600 narcotics seizures totaling more than 42,000 pounds between Oct. 1, 2019 and Sept. 30.
