  • A woman's body has been recovered, but two children are still missing after a car crashed into the Mississippi River. >> Read more trending news  Investigators said Symphony Wilson, 29, of Tunica, Mississippi was inside a vehicle along with her friends' 5-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy when the car sank into the Mississippi River. Divers recovered Wilson's body Monday, but the children are still missing. Dive crews said they know where the SUV is, but it's hard to reach because of debris in the water. The crash happened around 10 a.m. Sunday near the Fitz Tunica Casino & Hotel.  Officials told WHBQ that Wilson was dropping off a family friend who works at the Fitz Tunica Casino & Hotel prior to the crash. Authorities are still trying to figure out what happened after Wilson dropped off her friend, but believe the incident was accidental. “There was no incident, fight, confusion or anything like that,” Tunica County Sheriff KC Hamp told WHBQ. “Anything could’ve happened, we don’t know yet.”  Deputies said a casino employee saw the SUV go into the river and jumped in to help. “He dived into the Mississippi River and the current was so strong it was taking him, as well, and he had to come out,” Hamp said. The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, along with DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Diving Unit, Search & Rescue Unit and Air Support, Mississippi Fish & Wildlife; Mississippi Gaming Commission, first responders and Pafford Emergency Medical Service have all worked on the investigation.
  • Some 8 months after a 16-year-old was fatally shot near FSCJ's Deerwood Campus, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is announcing the arrest of a suspect. Jacksonville police say good police work and forensic evidence led to them identifying the suspect as 28-year-old Cleo Bentley.  Police say Bentley was arrested on June 12th in Phoenix, Arizona, on an unrelated armed robbery warrant out of Jacksonville, but has since been extradited and booked into the Duval County jail.  Police say Bentley and another individual are accused of approaching three people in a car at an apartment complex off of Old Baymeadows Road on December 14, 2018, and attempting to rob them. But investigators say the three victims attempted to flee, at which time Bentley is accused of shooting into the car. We're told the driver was shot, but survived. However, the 16-year-old passenger was killed.  JSO is stressing the importance of locking up your vehicle, as they say the gun used in this murder was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Jacksonville back in October 2017.  Bentley is now charged with murder, attempted murder, and three counts of armed robbery.

  • A Delaware day care worker has been charged with murder after police say she covered the nose and mouth of a 4-month-old baby with her hand until the infant died. Dejoynay Ferguson, 19, of New Castle, has been booked on one count of first-degree murder. Delaware State Police officials said in a news release that state troopers and paramedics were called around 10:35 a.m. Thursday to Little People Child Development Center in Bear, where they found the infant girl unresponsive. She was rushed to Christiana Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead. erguson, who was the assigned caregiver for the girl, worked in the Infant Room at the day care. Troopers said investigators with the state police’s homicide unit learned that Ferguson put her hands over the baby’s mouth and nose and restricted her breathing until the girl became unresponsive. “Once becoming unresponsive, the victim was placed back into a crib by Ferguson,” troopers said in the news release. “After approximately 20 minutes, Ferguson advised the owner of the facility that the victim was unresponsive, at which time a call was made to 911.” A probable cause affidavit obtained by NBC Philadelphia states that surveillance video at the day care center captured the infant’s death in full. The video shows Ferguson pick the baby up from the floor by her shirt and place her on a changing table. Related story: Day care worker charged, accused of breaking infant's leg From there, Ferguson is seen putting on latex gloves and covering the infant’s mouth and nose for more than three minutes, the affidavit says. It was at that point that the girl stopped moving. The Delaware News Journal reported that Ferguson initially gave troopers a different story from what was captured on the surveillance footage. After speaking with investigators, however, she admitted grabbing the child by the shirt. Ferguson told detectives she grabbed the girl and put her hand over her face because she was “fussy” and wouldn’t stop crying, the News Journal reported. Delaware’s Office of Childcare Licensing has suspended Little People’s license indefinitely following the victim’s slaying, troopers said. According to the News Journal, the Bear facility is one of three operated by the company, with other locations in New Castle and Christiana. >> Read more trending news  The Christiana site remained open Friday, according to the newspaper. The New Castle facility had workers present, but it was unclear if children were being cared for that day. A Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families spokesman told the News Journal that Little People passed an inspection in May. All employees, including Ferguson, had passed background checks. Ferguson is being held at the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $1 million cash bail, state troopers said.
