The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a 2-alarm fire at the Lakecrest condominiums around 3:45 a.m. Friday.

JFRD Captain Eric Prosswimmer told Action News Jax Alexus Cleavenger when crews got to the complex they were met with fire showing from the back of the building, and heavy smoke.

The fire was under control in just under an hour.

JFRD said three units were involved in the fire and two of those units suffered severe damage.

But along with the damage, that fire killed one man, who was described as a senior.

A neighbor, who has lived in the community for 14 years, said he knew the man who was killed, and they served one the neighborhood board together.

And during this difficult time, the neighbor wants to share his condolences to the man’s family. He said you just got to be thoughtful, think of him, and think of family.
