Déjà vu for mother of Murray Hill mass murder victim

Sekina Bell says her son's murder isn't the first time she's lost an important man in her life.

Thanksgiving Day will mark exactly three weeks since the Murray Hill mass murder that left two young men and two young women shot dead in a Randolph St. home. So far JSO has not said anything about possible leads or a suspect description.

For Sekina Bell, it's been a trying month. Her son, 25-year-old Derrick Williams, lived in the home where the shooting happened. Bell tells our partner Action News lately she's started smiling again and hasn't been crying, something she says is a sign the healing process has begun.

"Right now I feel OK," said Bell. "I don't know about later on, but right now my spirit is at ease."

"I felt like God had let me down. All the year I had been praying, asking to keep my sons out of harms way."

Bell says she got the call no parent wants to answer just after 5 a.m on November 7th. The person on the other end told her that her son had been murdered.

Bell says she feels like she's been here before because this isn't the first time an important man in her life has been taken away too soon.

Bell says she misses her son every day but is hopeful that police will make an arrest soon. She says they have told her they are following several leads in the investigation.
