“We’re funding the police”: First responders to get $1k bonuses Gov. DeSantis announced

SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday from Satellite Beach first responders in Florida will be getting an extra $1,000 bonus.

Law enforcement officers, EMTs, firefighters and paramedics are on the list for the bonus.

The proposal passed the legislature, and DeSantis now plans to sign it into law.

The funds will come from the federal rescue plan that was passed by Congress, according to the governor’s office.

The plan was passed by Congress, but the state has the power to allocate where the money goes.

DeSantis said during his announcement on Wednesday, “Some want to defund the police.”

“We’re funding the police and then some, and that’s what we’re here today to say,” DeSantis said.
