JEA is warning customers about a new scam taking place in Northeast Florida.
JEA officials say someone is calling residents offering energy audits that will result in a 25 percent savings. JEA says they do offer energy audits but do not charge for them or make up front promises about any amount of savings. Customers are able to make free appointments if they would like to set up an audit. During that process, a JEA representative will inspect your home and then offer cost-effective ideas designed to help lower energy costs.
If you are contacted by someone who offers to charge you for a JEA audit, they are presumably a scammer. You should not give that person any money. You should contact the non-emergency police line and report them to authorities.
