Jacksonville, Fl — It’s going to be a dry end to the work week, onshore winds return for the weekend. This morning is nice and mostly dry with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. There will be a dry morning and afternoon commute today. Highs reach the mid to upper 80s inland and lower to mid 80s along the coast. A few showers return this weekend as onshore winds increase again. Rough ocean conditions this weekend. Some minor tidal flooding likely this weekend with onshore winds increasing.

- Local political leaders are reacting with sadness and outrage over the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Rick Scott called the attack a tragedy and extended prayers to Kirk’s family. Northeast Florida lawmakers also joined in, saying political violence has no place in the country. Representative John Rutherford called it a senseless and horrible act.

- 24 years after the September 11 terror attacks, Northeast Florida pauses to remember, reflect, and offer service to community. The city of St. Augustine will honor its annual tradition of holding a ceremony of remembrance. Beaches Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Patriot Day volunteer event at the organization’s newest neighborhood, Coastal Haven, located at 2150 Mayport Road. See a full list of events here.
- Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook says deputies are being told to not enforce Florida’s ban on residents openly carrying their guns. Cook wrote on social media that she was telling her deputies to not enforce the law after a Florida appeals court earlier in the day deemed it unconstitutional. Cook says private property owners can still not allow the open carrying of guns on their property.
