Applications for Duval County relief money begins Friday

Jacksonville FL — Starting at 10AM Friday you’ll be able to start applying for the relief money the City of Jacksonville received from the federal government that will, in part, go towards people paying their rent, mortgage or utilities. Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry says the relief money is available for Duval County residents with a household income less than $75,000, at the time of application, and have experienced a 25% loss in income due to the virus. The program lets 40,000 households to receive $1,000 to pay for their rent, mortgage or utilities.

The application process will be on a first come, first serve basis and the mayor expects the 40,000 limit will fill up quickly.

“We got this money one week ago, we worked rapidly with our city council to appropriate it and allocate it, so we just ask all of you to be patient.” Curry says.

He says once the limit is reached, the website, Jaxrelief.coj.net, will stop taking appointments, and as the capacity opens back up, there is the potential that the site will reopen. The city says they have 30 IT people dedicated to project and they are confident the site will be able to handle the traffic its going to receive. If you don’t have internet access you can call 630-CITY to apply beginning no earlier than 10AM Friday.

Once you make an appointment, Curry says you’ll get a confirmation number and appointment time and you’ll need to bring the confirmation number with you. The city says appointments will begin this Monday at 9AM at the Main Library in downtown and at the Ed Ball Building, near City Hall, on Hogan Street. The city says you’ll enter at the Main Library from the Duval/Main Street entrance and at the Ed Ball Building from the Monroe Street entrance.

When you go, Curry says you’ll need to wear a mask, come alone and bring a blue pen. You’ll need to have your driver’s license or state ID card to show you live in the county, documents showing you were employed on February 29th, like a pay stub or bank statement, and your Social Security Number to register your payment card.

Once the site opens you can go to jaxrelief.coj.net to apply.
