"Big Jim" back to work in downtown Jax

"Big Jim" is back to work in Jacksonville.

JEA tells WOKV the 120-year-old whistle, which has been out of commission for over a year after a lightning strike. JEA had delayed fixing Big Jim to focus on the Orange Street Reservoir project which began around the same time.

Big Jim sits on top of JEA's main building downtown and has whistled at key times during the workday since 1895. It sounds at 7 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and 5 p.m.

It was named after its builder, James Patterson, and is often referred to as the city's oldest employee.
