Clay County now offering financial assistance for home repairs

Clay County FL — On Wednesday, Clay County announced residents can now start applying for financial assistance for home repairs, mobile home replacement, or Code Enforcement mitigation. The county says money from the program can be used for housing rehabilitation projects such as roofing, electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, accessibility modifications, health/sanitary problems, safety code violations, and or interior/exterior damage or deterioration to the structure. Failing septic systems and old wells can be replaced by paying for connection fees, abandoning private wells, and closing septic tanks, as well as other related plumbing costs. Funds may also be used for emergency repairs to bring a home into code compliance.

The money may also be used to cover the demolition and replacement of mobile homes that have been determined to not be economically feasible to fix. The county says this part will only be available for people over 65, disabled, or with special needs.

The county says residents will need to submit a Community Development Block Grant application to determine eligibility. Applications will be accepted until the end of the month.

We’re told the required documentation needed includes a completed application form, ID for all household members, or birth certificate for all household members under the age of 18, proof of homeownership, and income verification. All applications will be processed in the order they are received, and priority will be given to individuals earning 50 percent or less than the area median income.

All applicants will be notified of their acceptance or denial of participation in the program.
