Vessel found capsized in St. Johns River broke free from pier

Jacksonville, FL — After several hours of searching for the owner, the Coast Guard has determined a boat that was found capsized in the St. Johns River broke free from a pier, and there is nobody in distress.

The Coast Guard says they received a report of an overturned 16-foot center console boat just before 9AM. There was no sign of any person in distress in the water. The Coast Guard launched a 29-foot response boat to begin searching the area near where the vessel was found, around Goat Island.

The Coast Guard now says they’ve gotten in contact with the operator of the vessel, who says the boat broke free from the pier. There is no distress, and the vessel will be recovered.
