Duval County Public Schools to purchase laptops, cleaning solution, as back to school approaches

First day of school is August 20th.

Jacksonville, FL — Back to school planning is entering a new phase, with just over two weeks before the first day in Duval County Public, the district is going to purchase cleaning solution that will sanitize classrooms for up to 90 days.

The School Board also approved a $30 million contract to lease up to 50,000 laptops, so that every student has a laptop available.

Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene also outlined plans for closing schedules if there is an outbreak of coronavirus in a classroom or a school building.

The first day of class is set for Thursday, August 20th. At least 35,000 students had signed up for the Duval Homeroom as of Monday. The district says there is an additional 1,200 applications that are being processed. That accounts for about one-third of the district population.
