On time and under budget.
“It’s how I envisioned it- even better,” says Jaguars owner Shad Khan.
The hallmark of the $63 million in renovations that have been undertaken at EverBank Field- two massive video boards- will be unveiled Saturday evening in between a friendly soccer match between Khan's Fulham FC and DC United and a concert by Carrie Underwood.
Khan funded $20 million to the City's $43 million for the project, which also includes cabana space, pools, and on-field seating. By the start of the season there will also be upgraded wi-fi available around the stadium.
“It’s gunna raise the game day experience to a new level,” Khan says.
Khan says he’s toured all the new features, including going in to the new pools before the water was in- although he says he would absolutely go in when they’re up and running as well.
Even with a significant locker room upgrade funded by Khan ahead of the last season and the EverBank Field upgrades this time around- the Jags owner says he’s not done.
“If you’re standing still, you’re falling behind,” he says.
I asked Khan what could be next on his list of projects, and he says that will depend on feedback from the fans and figuring out what they want to see next. There are some big projects being conceptualized, including a screen that would essentially dome the stadium, and Khan says that’s still on the table. He first wants to break in these newest improvements and figure out how to use them to maximize your experience.
