Florida’s Sales Tax Holiday kicks off today

Jacksonville — Florida’s sales tax holidays kick-off today, Friday, July 1.

Governor Ron DeSantis signs five sales tax holidays and exemptions periods into law that kick off this Friday, July 1. Both the taxes and exemptions apply to in-store and online purchases.

“With rising inflation affecting the cost of everything from daily necessities to big-ticket items, Floridians are looking for ways to save money wherever they can,” said Jim Zingale, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Revenue in a recent press release. “These sales tax holidays and exemption periods will help consumers save on purchases large and small. Best of all, families with infants and small children will benefit for an entire year.”

Also exempt from sales tax during this holiday period are eligible boating and water activity supplies including camping and fishing supplies; general outdoor supplies; residential pool supplies; and sporting equipment.

Freedom Week Sales Tax Holiday, July 1-7, 2022. Recreational and outdoor supplies plus admissions to entertainment and cultural events will be tax exempt during Freedom Week which runs from Friday, July 1, through Thursday, July 7. During this sales tax holiday period, tax is not due on the retail sale of admissions to music, sporting, or cultural events, plus specified performances, movies, museums, state parks, and fitness facilities.

The sales tax holiday does not apply to eligible rental item or sales within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport. Information and promotional materials for consumers, businesses, and other interested parties is available at floridarevenue.com/freedomweek.

Baby and Toddler Clothing Sales Tax Exemption, July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023. Children’s single-use diapers, reusable diapers, and reusable diaper inserts will be tax-exempt for an entire year beginning Friday, July 1, 2022. A baby and toddler clothing sales tax exemption will also run for an entire year for children ages 5 and younger. ENERGY STAR® Appliances Sales Tax Exemption, July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023. Certain appliances bearing the ENERGY STAR® logo will be tax-free for a year beginning July 1, 2022. A complete list of qualifying appliances can be found at floridarevenue.com/ENERGYSTAR .

Home Hardening Sales Tax Exemption, July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2024. A Home Hardening sales tax Exemption will be offered for two years for impact-resistant doors, windows, and garage doors. More information can be found at floridarevenue.com/HomeHardening and PrepareFL.com .
