Four inmates escape Jacksonville DJJ facility, three caught

Jacksonville, FL — Four juvenile detainees are accused of staging a fight, stealing a staff member’s keys and cell phone, and escaping a Florida Department of Juvenile Justice facility on Lannie Road on Jacksonville’s Northside.

JSO says they were called at 11:02 PM Saturday in reference to the escape from Jacksonville Youth Academy.

JSO says the four juveniles staged a fight in their dorm room and then attacked staff who came in to stop them. Police say the suspects fought staff in the control room as well, and from there they released the front door and dumped out a staff member’s purse, then stealing her car keys and cell phone. JSO believes the suspects fled in a vehicle that was reported as stolen from the facility. It is a bronze, four-door Infiniti with Florida license plate LANE19.

The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice tells WOKV admissions to this facility have been suspended, as they immediately investigate these escapes.

Three suspects- Tyjuan Monroe, Marcus Ledbetter, and Davionne Baldwin- have since been located and arrested for escape and battery on detention facility staff, according to JSO. Tajah Bing and the vehicle involved have not yet been found.

“The Department takes escape incidents such as these very seriously, and if we discover through our investigation that failures of policies and procedures have occurred, we will take contract action against this provider,” says a statement from the DJJ.

TrueCore Behavioral Solutions, which runs the facility for DJJ, says they are cooperating with law enforcement and are reviewing policies and procedures relating to this event.
