Police say the man who was shot to death Sunday afternoon at a Jacksonville playground had been in an argument with the shooter moments before he was killed.
Officers responded to St. Nicholas Park on Spring Park Road about 2:20 p.m. and found the man dead on the ground, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Leeanndra Members is the victim's girlfriend, and she identified the man as 20-year-old Lamonte Dabney.
Police say the two were walking to the park with the woman's 6-year-old daughter when the argument broke out with an unknown black man who was wearing a red top and red pants.
Police say about five minutes after the argument ended, the man entered the park and walked toward Dabney. The argument started again, and Dabney was shot multiple times.
The shooter fled on foot heading north on Spring Park Road, police say.
“Nobody will ever take his place. He will forever be remembered,” Members says to our news partner Action News Jax.
Members returned to the park Monday where a makeshift memorial is in place. She tells Action News Jax she hopes someone will come forward to give her closure.
“My children and I are really, really hurting," she says. "We would really, really like to be at peace. Please say something."
