Jacksonville, FL — Twenty-seven people have been arrested in Duval County, as part of a concentrated federal “enforcement action”.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement says they arrested 271 aliens overall from Florida, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. The operation ran five days this month, targeting “immigration violators and those who pose a threat to public safety” according to ICE.
WOKV asked for more details about those who were arrested locally, but ICE says there will be no additional information provided.
ICE says 99 of those arrested had criminal records including violent felonies, 49 were ICE fugitives, and 39 had previously been removed from the US- although, again, they would not confirm if any of those were the local suspects. We are also not being told what charges the local suspects face.
ICE says some of those arrested will be immediately deported, while others are in custody, awaiting a hearing before an immigration judge or pending travel arrangements.
ICE says those arrested represent 36 countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Anguilla, Bahamas, Bosnia, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia, Chile, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Hungary, Israel, Jamaica, Kuwait, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Turkey, and United Kingdom.
