JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Friends of the Brentwood Public Library, Inc. will host the inaugural James Weldon Johnson Literacy Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The one-mile event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at Andrew Jackson High School, located at 48th and Main Streets.
The community event combines literacy promotion with healthy living while honoring Jacksonville native James Weldon Johnson. Johnson was a poet, educator, civil rights leader, diplomat, attorney and author who wrote the lyrics to “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, which featured music composed by his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson.

Registration for the walk-a-thon is open to the public. Individual registration costs $45, youth registration is $25, and team registration for groups of up to 12 people is available for $500. Event organizers are inviting participation from local schools, churches, businesses, and civic groups.
Sponsorship tiers are available for businesses and organizations seeking to support the event. Options include the Legacy Sponsor tier at $2,000, the Community Sponsor tier at $1,500 and the Literacy Sponsor tier at $1,000.
