Jacksonville Beach Corporal released from hospital, after being shot twice

Jacksonville, FL — The Jacksonville Beach Police Corporal shot twice in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect is now out of the hospital, less than a day after the string of incidents transpired.

Jacksonville Beach Police say 16-year veteran Corporal Bill Eierman was working a nearby crash scene, when he heard gunfire and ran to the area.

Eierman was released from the hospital late Thursday afternoon and is expected to make a full recovery.

27-year-old Jovan Sisljagic allegedly shot at an officer in a vehicle and then fled on foot. Police say that initial officer following, and then heard more gunfire. Eierman had encountered Sisljagic around Beach and 3rd Street, and they allegedly shot at each other.

Eierman was hit twice, while the suspect was hit three times. Sisljgic was released from the hospital within hours, and has been booked on two counts of attempted murder. He remains in jail, following his first appearance in front of a judge today.

It’s still unclear why Sisljagic fired at the officer.

The Police Chief is thanking the community for their support, while asking Eierman and his family be given privacy.
