Jacksonville judge stumped on sentencing for murder suspect

A Jacksonville judge has found himself stumped on a murder case.

Senior Judge Michael Weatherby said Tuesday, he was stumped over what to do about a murder conviction left without a sentence, when the Trial Judge passed away unexpectedly this month.

The Times Union is reporting Judge Weatherby said he may need a second opinion from the state appellate courts to determine how to sentence 31-year-old Deangelo Thomas.

Thomas was found guilty of first-degree murder in the April 2010 shooting and killing of Navy Chief Petty Officer David Gilbert.
