Jacksonville man arrested for killing girlfriend next to their three-year-old son

A Jacksonville man has been arrested for a murder committed in the presence of his 3-year-old son.

JSO says 23-year-old Bria Kelsey was in the back seat of a car, sitting next to her son, when she was shot in the head. The car was found in a parking lot on Normandy and Lake Shore Blvd, with the child still inside, unharmed.

We’re told 24-year-old Kameron Holmes- who was dating Kelsey and is the father of the child- initially told police that Kelsey was the victim of a random drive-by shooting.

“Kameron said that as he was driving down the road, he had encountered a white male in a black Honda that shot at the car in an unprovoked drive-by shooting,” says JSO Lieutenant Steve Gallaher.

Police immediately questioned that based on physical evidence, though, and transported Holmes Downtown. JSO says, while being interviewed, he confessed to being in an argument with the victim over domestic issues.

“During the argument, he became enraged,” Gallaher says.

Holmes then allegedly grabbed a gun from a door compartment and shot Kelsey in the head.

Kelsey's family tells our partner Action News Jax, "I feel like from the moment she met him and the moment she was with him, he was the death of her."

Her family also mentioned a separate incident involving Kelsey and Holmes, but says the charges were eventually dropped.
