Jacksonville Police: officer, suspect hit by patrol car in Hogans Creek

Jacksonville, Fl. — Jacksonville Police say one of their own struck an officer and a suspect while investigating a car-jacking in Hogans Creek.

The officer was patrolling the area of Davis and 13th Street Thursday night when he spotted a car that had been reported stolen in a car-jacking. After the officer confirmed the car was stolen, he conducted a traffic stop. The suspect then bailed the car and took, the officer started running after him.

The two crossed Davis Street and into the path of a second JSO patrol car that was responding to the scene as backup. The patrol car hit both the officer and the suspect, they were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A woman was inside of the suspect car, JSO says she was detained and is being questioned about the events.

The officer hit has been identified as Eric Megela, a two-year veteran with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The suspect and the woman inside the car have not been identified.
