Jacksonville, FL — It's the 8th time it's happened this year.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is announcing the arrest of one of their own, after an incident in the 5 Points area.
According to Undersheriff Pat Ivey, Officer Thomas McDonald, was with a group of people drinking at a bar this past Sunday night/Monday morning when a conversation took place.
"During that conversation, Officer McDonald chose to reach out and inappropriately touch the female that was part of the group, who was there with her significant other. The incident was captured on video and they made a complaint to us," says Ivey.
McDonald was arrested Tuesday morning on one count of simple battery.
Ivey speaking about the video says, "You can tell by her response that it was totally unwanted contact by Officer McDonald."
He says McDonald touched the woman on the upper breast area, prompting her to punch him.
McDonald is an 18-year veteran of the force and according to documents from JSO, he has multiple complaints against him, as well as a 10-day suspension that occurred about 4 years.
Ivey says McDonald is currently facing a 15-day suspension that Ivey personally recommend for him, in an unrelated incident. But McDonald has elected to take that to the Civil Service Board this October.
Post-arrest, Ivey says McDonald will be assigned to tele-serve and adds that his police powers have been revoked.
