Jacksonville, FL — A woman was hit and killed by an SUV near the Jacksonville University campus on Sunday evening.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says an elderly woman was walking on Merrill Road outside of a crosswalk when she was hit just before 8pm. The driver stayed on scene and was cooperating with investigators.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she died. JSO says there was no reason to believe the crash was DUI-related.
According to statistics from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there have been 116 pedestrian crashes from January 1 through March 31 in Duval County. 10 of those were fatal.
