JSO: Mother accused of helping son hide beer, after alleged DUI crash

Jacksonville, FL — A Jacksonville woman and her teenage son are both facing charges, after a crash on Kernan Boulevard and First Coast Tech Parkway.

According to the arrest report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the 17-year-old suspect was arrested for DUI, after allegedly hitting another vehicle, hitting a tree, and then going through a median.

The report says he admitted to officers that he consumed alcohol with his mother earlier in the day.  Officers describe him as smelling of alcohol, being unsteady on his feet, speaking with slurred speech, and having bloodshot and watery eyes.

As for the mother, Marla Myers, 53, she's accused of contributing to the delinquency of a child and resisting an officer without violence.

The arrest report says a witness saw her show up to the scene of the crash and help her son ditch beer into the woods nearby. That witness claims they also saw her put two beers into her own car and helped pour out others.

JSO says they recovered an opened case of beer and marijuana from the scene.
