Jumbo Shrimp season moved to May

MLB delayed Triple-A season for four weeks.

Jacksonville, Fl — The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp’s return to Triple-A will have to wait another four weeks, as Major League Baseball delayed the start of the season. The announcement moves opening day at 121 Financial Ballpark to May 4th. The Jumbo Shrimp will host the Norfolk Tides at 7:05 p.m.

“Over the past year, we have been thrown several curveballs, but we are taking this news in stride,” said Jumbo Shrimp owner/CEO Ken Babby. “All of our energy is now shifting to creating a memorable Triple-A season that will begin in early May. Great things are worth waiting for, and this May will be such a special Opening Day in Jacksonville.”

Major League Baseball informed its teams that they will open the season with alternate site camps, and push the Class AAA season back a month.

The new 10-year agreement with the Miami Marlins was announced in December.

Jacksonville last had a Triple-A affiliate in 1968 when the team was known as the Suns.
