Jacksonville, FL — The Florida Forest Service and Dee Dot Timberlands is conducting a prescribed burn on the Southside, and it’s sending dark smoke high in to the air.
The burn if 650 acres, off JTB and I-295. It’s designed to reduce wildfire hazards.
Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh says the wind is contributing to the spread of the smoke.
Prescribed burns are taking place across Northeast Florida, in advance of the formal start of fire season.
