JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: Man arrested for murder after fatal shooting at Clanzel Brown Park in Jacksonville
A man was killed in a shooting following an argument at a park on Moncrief Road, says the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to JSO, officers responded to Moncrief Road in reference to a shooting around 5:50 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

JSO says they learned that there was a group at the park playing basketball. At one point, the victim and suspect began to argue, and the suspect produced a gun and shot the victim before leaving the scene.
Multiple witnesses were detained at the scene, and a suspect was identified and taken into custody a short distance away from the scene.

The park off Golfair has been the scene of gunfire before. On July 19, a 12-year-old boy was shot in the leg and survived following an argument at the park.
“The kids over there having a good time, but you got some adults come over there and start acting up and then an argument going on and they look around and they’re shooting over there now all the kids scared they don’t know what to do,” Willie Turner, who works near shooting scene, said.

“They just built this park here in our community and we don’t want this crime area to be around our children or my grandbabies or none of that. I want this part to be safe for everybody. We need security over there,” neighbor Rochelle Campbell said.
As of this article’s publication this is the 157th shooting, and 45th deadly shooting in Jacksonville.
