Memorial Hospital to roll out new technology designed to detect lung cancer earlier

Jacksonville FL — Next week, Memorial Hospital is set to roll out a new robotic medical device that’s designed to detect lung cancer earlier. Dr. Dale Mueller with Memorial says this robotic device is able to go into the lungs and find a spot that could be cancerous. He says lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the world because typically because its diagnosed late since symptoms come on late.

“This is an attempt, along with CT scan screening, to diagnose lung cancer earlier and subsequently treat it and get it cured.” Dr. Mueller says.

He says this new process is minimally invasive and can be done as an out-patience procedure. Dr. Mueller says the complication rates with this new technology are lower compared to what they use to do. This new technology will be the first of its kind in Northeast Florida and will roll out December 8th.
