ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The mother of a man who died in a motorcycle accident is demanding answers about what happened. Friends and family identified the man as 25-year-old Edward Pustynovich.
His mother, Dina Powell, said he died in a motorcycle accident Saturday, just feet away from his home. “He literally was coming and turning into his apartment complex,” Powell said. “But he was struck by two vehicles.”
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 9 p.m. off Four Mile Road in St. Augustine. Action News Jax is still waiting on the sheriff’s office report to confirm details, but Powell said her son’s death involved at least two cars.
“I don’t know what happened for sure, but I do want to know the truth,” Powell said. “It’s like torture, next level pain.”
Loved ones gathered Monday night in front of one of his favorite meet-up spots to honor his life. The memorial was made up of his favorite snacks, photos with friends and pieces of his motorcycle gathered by loved ones immediately after the accident.
Powell said his death comes just four months after his best friend, Derek, was also killed in a motorcycle accident.
Pustynovich’s two younger brothers say they are still in shock.
“I honestly am having trouble refusing to believe any of this even happened,” said Jaden Powell. “It feels like every second has been going by faster than the last.”
“We had so many plans for the future. Wish I could spend more time with him,” said Jeremiah Powell, another of Pustynovich’s brothers.
One of his best friends, Hunter Millender, said he hopes the next time drivers hit the road, they pay more attention to motorcycle drivers.
“We don’t have seat belts or airbags to protect us. All we have is whatever gear on our body and a helmet,” Millender said. “When we hit the pavement, the road’s unforgiving.”
Pustynovich’s family told Action News Jax they are not sure if an arrest will be made.
